Viewpoint009. Efficiency and Relaxation

Efficiency and Relaxation

In today’s society, people strive to be more efficient than in the past.

Recently, I read a book about studying through listening. The author emphasized efficiency and recommended that audiences listen at double or triple speed because our ears can catch information at high speeds. However, doesn’t this have some negative effects on our brains?

Many people now watch videos or movies at double speed, which can over-activate the sympathetic nervous system, potentially leading to issues like reduced patience or insomnia.

When people focus primarily on work or similar tasks, they tend to ignore signals from their bodies. This might help achieve short-term goals, but it is probably not beneficial for long-term well-being.

People have an instinct to follow others, driven by peer pressure that sometimes helped us escape from lions. However, this same instinct can lead to blind conformity.

If you have a clear goal and know where you want to go, then pushing yourself for your dreams is fine. However, if you are simply running as others do, it might be more important to spend time considering what you truly want.
